n this physics assignment, students are tasked with designing and building a rocket from a simple plastic bottle. The goal of the assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of basic physics principles such as Newton's laws of motion and the properties of air pressure. Students must construct their rocket using materials such as cardboard, tape, and plastic fins, and must also create a launcher to propel their rocket into the air. Once constructed, students will test their rockets to determine the maximum height achieved and analyze the data to draw conclusions about the design and performance of their rocket. This assignment encourages hands-on learning and creativity while reinforcing important physics concepts.

Bottle Rocket Assignment

A bottle rocket is a bottle in which air and water is placed under pressure before the bottle is
released in an upward direction. In this assignment, you will construct a bottle rocket in groups
of three using your knowledge of Newton’s Law of motion.

Task
1. Construct a bottle rocket similar to the image on the right.
Your rocket must have the following properties, have a cone
nose, fins and a parachute that opens when the rocket is
launched.
2. Launch the rocket. Make sure to note down your
observations of the distance (this will be included in your
report)
3. Create a report with the following information. Report is
individual for each group member.
a. Pick a country that does space exploration and write
a brief description of what they do. Each student
must pick a different country to do the research on.
b. Use the concepts of dynamics to explain how rockets
work when they are launched and also how they are
able to travel in space
c. Describe how rockets/ space exploration impacts
society and environment, in reference to your chosen country.
d. A labeled diagram of your rocket
e. Observation table of what happened on lunch day (altitude triangulated by a
clinometer)
f. Reflection: Discuss how your rocket worked in terms of height compared to other
groups, did your parched work and improvement that you would make to your
rocket.
g. Reference list. Make sure to include in-text citations
