ISOTONIC SOLUTIONS
An Isotonic Solution has the same osmotic pressure as bodily fluids (blood or tears) • 0.9% (w/v) sodium chloride is considered isotonic with bodily fluids – Normal Saline includes 0.9 grams of Sodium per 100mls • Drug solutions that often need to be isotonic include: – Parenteral (IV) preparations – Ophthalmic solution
