Sears July 6, 2022 Part 1 1A “I Can’t” List (Six things you want to change, but you find it difficult to do so, then write two paragraphs under each item) Challenge 1: I can’t publicly speak in front of a group of people Description: No matter how big or small the group of people are present; I can’t publicly speak in front of them. I get very anxious and even though I rehearsed what I was going to say, I tend to forget, and I start to panic. Example: Growing up, I’ve always struggled with speaking in front of people. Whether be teachers, friends, and/or even family members. I hate the feeling of people just starring at you and I get this weird feeling that people are seeing through me, like literally. As if they can read all my secrets or even read my mind. Also, I feel like I’m being critically judged. Usually, when I start feeling this way, that is when I start stuttering and find ways to sound “smarter”, but in the end I just look dumb. Challenge 2: I can’t be empathetic with others Description: I can have deep conversations with friends, but I usually end up feeling uncomfortable. Example: No matter how hard I try to show empathy, I simply can’t. I don’t know how to console them; I don’t know what to say. I simply hug them and stay like that for a while. I understand what they’re feeling, and I can give some word of encouragement but that’s about it. I do think it’s important to show empathy but it’s one the things I struggle with.
