Databases Databases are a good way for any business/ organisation to store and produce information. There are many
database software’s but the one that is used widely is Microsoft Access.
Queries= Queries are one of the main features of databases as it helps requests informations from databases
however you have to use special query language because that’s only recognised. Multiple queries can also be
used to find multiple values of information at the same time.
Import Excel Files= Most database have a feature for you to import files from different such as excel, word
and text files. This can be helpful as it can businesses organise everything in a correct way and furthermore it is
easy to import data without much hassle as a wizard will guide you through this.
Macros= In most databases you are able to create Macros which can help you in various things such as forms
and reports. For example you can add functionality to you database such as commands/ buttons and program
them with Macro’s.
How Matlin insurance could use this to produce information
Matlin Insurance would have different databases for different departments so it will be easier to retrieve data
again. Again different departments could view other department’s databases to share information so it is
important for Matlin insurance to be able to store and keep these databases safe and secure. However the first
thing important for Matlin to do is to plan and design a data model which is how the different pieces of
information is stored in your information system which in this case is a database. For these database systems
they can be manually applied into a paper based system.
A database information system for Matlin could prove very useful as they can see where the company is at in
20 years’ time and measure their performance from month to month and of course everything from the
database can be put into graphs and charts for Matlin to compare with other businesses. However Matlin
Insurance must make sure they have high speed access because they have large databases with many
customer information so they should be able to search for and access queries quickly because for a business
like Matlin time is money.
