100% SOLUTIONS FOR DTM3704... QUESTIONS ASKED The city of Barcelona welcomes an exceptionally large number of tourists every year. According to the good principles of tourism practice, this is unacceptable because every destination must set a limit to the amount of tourists it receives. What kind of negative impact does this refer to? During the development of the city of Barcelona, a large number of tourism components were used and a considerable amount of money was spent by the Spanish government on infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity. As a South African tourist in Barcelona, which tourism component will you need most? From the article above, the environmental impact of tourism on Barcelona is undeniable since the city is an existing destination. It means that, because of existing business practice, a solution must be found to ensure this destination’s survival. What is this solution?_________ planning uses statistics to predict the future of a destination. Note that predictive planning does not involve any stakeholders in planning; it only involves empirical evidence. Assume that the circumstances described in the article apply to one of South Africa’s cities, for example, Johannesburg. Which South African law is compromised? Assume that you have a diploma in Tourism Management and are employed by as the executive director at one of the Protea Hotel group’s hotels. You plan to develop a new hotel in Cape Town and have to follow certain steps to ensure that your planning is a success. Apart from involving local government, you will have to conduct asset evaluation and impact analyses (such as economic and sociocultural analyses) before development can commence. Which option do you think will be appropriate to ensure that the development takes place without negative consequences?A key benefit of having a plan is to identify what the real needs and priorities are so that financial and human resources can be used most effectively. The ___________ management model requires management to identify and plan their approach to issues, to implement their plans in order to achieve the desired outcomes, to check or verify their results, and to review and improve all the phases of the management. You are a South Africa citizen and have completed the Diploma in Tourism Management at Unisa. Unexpectedly, you get an opportunity to work in Barcelona. You have to be there in five days’ time. Because you have never visited the city, you will have to conduct an environmental audit. Fortunately, you have a computer and will be able to view the city, familiarise yourself with their laws and gain a general understanding of your duties. Which of the following will be the best technique to use?44The considerable number of tourists that the city of Barcelona receives every year has a negative impact on the environment. Tourism also has a positive side because it boosts the economy of the city and Spain as a whole. What benefits does Spain gain from the large number of tourists it receives every year? Researchers define “sustainable development” in different ways. The following definition by the World Commission on Environment and Development is considered the best and is used for the purposes of this module. What is sustainable development? Planning (especially for a large city such as Barcelona) involves establishing a vison, mission, goal and objectives through the efficient and appropriate use of resources available now and in the future. Specific planning approaches are followed in the tourism industry. One of them is …The aim of integrated environmental management is to mitigate negative impacts and to enhance the positive aspects of a project development proposal. This cannot be done unless a framework of cooperation is established between three key participants, namely the people proposing development, the authorities and the public. Which one of the following is a benefit of integrated environmental management?Assume that you have a diploma in Tourism Management and are employed as the executive director at one of the Protea Hotel group’s hotels. You plan to develop a new hotel in Waikato and have to follow certain steps to ensure that your planning is a success. Apart from involving local government, you will have to conduct asset evaluation and impact analyses (such as economic and sociocultural analyses) before development can commence. Which option do you think will be appropriate to ensure that the development takes place without negative consequences? Different components of the tourism industry should be considered in tourism development. Which component of planning for the Hamilton and Waikato region is clearly indicated?

,Barcelona, a sustainable destination
Tourism keeps on growing in many cities around the world, including Barcelona. If you
ask someone to define Barcelona in a word, it would be tourist mecca. Since 1992
Barcelona ranks as one of the most attractive cities in the world for travellers. It is known
for its great cultural heritage, gastronomy, sport-Barca, the parcGuell, the Sagrada
Familia, its beaches, the climate and way of life. But tourism also has some negative
impacts, especially on the environment. For this reason, the city council has implemented
a series of measures to counter the negative impact of tourism and to return the city to
its residents.
Xavier Font, professor of sustainable marketing at the University of Surrey in Great
Britain, warns that “cities often begin to manage the impact of tourism only when it is
too late”, and that “unlike visitors to beach destinations and natural parks, city tourists
use the same infrastructure as the locals”. He proposes measures for sustainable tourism
that does not hinder daily life in the city and that it benefits its residents: “It is convenient
to attract tourists for out-of-city escapes, which means less burden for the urban
infrastructure. It is also important to attract customers that behave more like locals”.
Those who visit Barcelona for the first time go to the Sagrada Familia, but those who visit
it for the umpteenth time – among which the French stand out – favour the less-known
suburbs. It is also advisable to reduce seasonality by emphasising activities that can be
done in winter or in non-peak times and offering products and services produced
locally.
Tourists give a high score (8.7) to the city and highlight the architecture, culture,
entertainment and restaurants. On the negative side they complain that prices are too
high. Tourists also object to the massification of tourist zones and monuments.
Nonetheless, overnight stays in hotels rose 5.5% last year, reaching 19.5 million. There
was a significant increase in the number of airport passengers (11.2% or 44.1 million
tourists) and cruise ships arriving in the port of Barcelona (5.6% or 206 million tourists).
Some 86.7% of Barcelonans think that tourism benefits their city. According to the 2016
tourism activity report, the percentage of residents calling for a limit on the number of
tourists (48.9%) for the first time exceeded that of those who are against such a
restriction (47.5%).
The city of Barcelona welcomes an exceptionally large number of tourists every year.
According to the good principles of tourism practice, this is unacceptable because every
destination must set a limit to the amount of tourists it receives. What kind of negative
