WEEK ONE DISCUSSION
Advanced Health and Physical Assessment Welcome to Advanced Health and Physical

Assessment! We will begin with a course overview, a discussion of the physical exam and

history taking for advanced assessment, a discussion of clinical decision making and differential

diagnoses, and a brief discussion of the integumentary system. This course has been designed to

teach you to use a holistic and culturally appropriate approach to examining your patients. This

includes verbal history taking, a physical exam, and ordering and interpretation of tests, as well

as a psychological and psychosocial evaluation of your client. During this course, we will cover

the life span from birth to death. Health promotion will be discussed, in addition to illness. Each

week, you will be assigned readings from your textbook and possible websites to review for

further information. You will have a discussion board question and participation for each week.

Some weeks, you will have a quiz on the content presented with a midterm and final exam.

There will also be additional assignments related to advanced health and physical assessment.

Your final grade will consist of your weekly discussions, quizzes, exams, patient focused

episodic assessments and write-ups with Human , a video submission of a complete head-to toe

physical assessment with write up, and maintenance of a clinical portfolio in Medley. Sixty

precepted clinical hours are required to complete this course and will begin in Week 4. Your

preceptor must complete a final evaluation before or during Week 10 of your clinical experience,

and we ask that you evaluate the clinical site as well. Your feedback of your clinical site is very

beneficial when considering the placement of future students. A minimum grade of B is required

to pass the

,didactic component and the clinical component must be passed in order to successfully complete

the course.

WEEK ONE DISCUSSION AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Hello, Professor and classmates,

My name is Hortense Noble, I just relocated to Dallas Texas. I have three children and seven

grandchildren. I am the caretaker of five of my beautiful grandchildren, plus my father. I don’t

know how I do it, but I am, through the grace of God!

I have been a nurse for ten years, worked in ICU, PACU, TELE. MED SURGE and

management. I just accomplished one of my goals, my Bachelors’ Degree at Regis University

last year, yeah!! My major is Family Nurse Practitioner. My current goal is to successfully

complete the MSN Degree by the year 2018 if God permits. However, my ultimate goal is to

achieve my DNP by the year 2021. Oh yes! I will be taking a one year break between each

degree. Meanwhile, I accepted a job offer with Texas Health Hospital in Dallas in the

Trauma unit, and I love it!

In trauma and ICU assessment and critical thinking is an essentiaal compnent of identification of

an issue, early intervention, and prevention. As a future nurse practitioner, physical assessment

is a vital part of patient care and treatment. Therefore, this class will enable me to be more

knowledgeable and advanced in physical assessment. Subsequently, this will enable me the

opportunity to evaluate patients psychological and psychosocial lifestyle while assessing their

physical abilities and or limitations and identifying any existing or potential disease. This class

will contribute immensely to my professional growth and knowledge in means and ways to

, recognize, and identify impending diagnosis and safely treat our patients/clients for a better

patient’s outcome and promote a healthy community.

My goal is to master physical assessment and history taking by the the start of my first clinical

rotation. My husband will be my guinea pig/my first patient…Lol! I love critical care; therefore,

I am leaning towards working in a critical care inpatient facility or as an infectious dieases NP.

I am anticipating learning from all of you!

DISCUSSON FEEDBACK & RESPONSE
Hi Jenny,

Nice to meet you and welcome! I applaud your husband for stepping up! When your

spouse/significant other is encouraging, supportive and contributing to, and of your goals, you

are in business. Please let show him this post; it takes a great man to stand up and stand behind

his woman and family for betterment. His emotional, physical and psychosocial support is

essential in contributing to your success with this course. My husband is very supportive as well,

and I so appreciate him.

In regards to your confession, you are not alone. Many of us could relate to that…lol! This is

where this class comes in. I am anticipating learning from you!
