Week 8 Class Response 8

When Ken is asking about the complicated relationship of father and telling the

four story of his father, I felt amazed with the relationship of them. I am not close

with my father as our relationships are poor. However, in my memories he was a kind

and interested man because he always played with me. Sometimes he would be angry

if I did not tidy up my room. He always smiles and being happy all the time. In this

society, man and women are told to be certain types of people in relation to maintain

social order and expectations. Those norms are not naturally happened. When I was

small, I had watched a lot of Disney movies with princesses. They are all slim, white,

and waiting to be saved by prince. Until now, I still like those movies as they bring so

much imagination. At the same time, it restricts how I can be as a woman. Even I

understand that people should have their own lives and goals, in some way I am

hoping that there is a man live with me happily even after forever. Back to my story of

my father, I did not have some much time with him, however, one thing that I still

remember was about he was crying in the room. I did not remember why he cried but

I felt shocked because he always told my brother and I not to cry. In this moment, I

feel so powerless about what I thought to my father. The social expression in gender

defined certain types of people. It restricts how people living. For example, men are

not allowed to have their own emotions and they should be tough all the time. I felt

sorry about how the society creates the categories. We should living in our own way

as everyone has their freedom to understand what they are and what they want to be.
