Year’s Eve!
Every year, more than a thousand accidents happen in the Netherlands due to
the personal use of fireworks. All of these accidents are seen as ordinary by the
citizens, even though injuries like hearing damage, losing fingers, and getting
blind are the consequences in this which cannot be taken lightly. Fireworks for
personal use should be prohibited.
To start, a great amount of people get injured because of fireworks for personal
use. Not only the ones who set off the firework and are not careful enough with it,
but also the audience can get wounded badly due to fireworks that are bouncing
back or are caught in a three. Furthermore, some of the fireworks do not go off
like they normally do but can go off when picked up by for instance a child. The
number of injuries can be helped by prohibiting the personal use of fireworks.
In addition to what is stated above, firework damages the environment. The
packages and leftovers often end up in nature and might start forest fires. Due to
these fires, lots of living space of the animals will be destroyed and less CO 2 will
be taken out the atmosphere. On top of that, the leftovers can be eaten by
animals. The animals die thanks to all this remains which should not be the
purpose of fireworks. Therefore, it should be prohibited.
On the contrary, the sales of fireworks boost the economy drastically. The Dutch
population spends millions of Euros on fireworks. This amount grows every year.
Some even safe up money to make sure they can buy firework for their children.
When this income is put out of the market, quite a couple of jobs and a big
source of income will be gone.
Although this may be true, fireworks cost us more than it brings us though profit
in the economy. The medical costs, the fires and damage in the forest, and the
vandalism( like blowing up trashcans and mailboxes) pile up with costs that the
profit of the fireworks cannot compensate any longer. So yes, it looks like a boost
but on the background, it costs more than it earns.
All things considered, fireworks should be prohibited for personal use. The costs
will lower, the number of accidents will lower, money will be saved, and the
environment will not be as much damaged as it is now. With this, much more
people will go into the new year unharmed. Who would not want that? Happy and
