, The birth processes
Labour:
The bridging process between the 2 phases of life.
This differs culturally and individually.
The Natural Vaginal Delivery goes through the birth canal in 3 stages:
➢ The cervix dilates so that the baby can pass through (3-14 hours)
➢ The baby’s head begins to emerge through the cervix and ends when baby is
completely outside the mother (15 minutes-2 hours)
➢ After birth, the placenta and the umbilical cord expelled about 20 minutes
after the delivery.
➢ The average duration from first contraction to expulsion from 14 to 15
hours.
➢ This usually lasts longer for the first childbirth than for later births.
The caesarean delivery:
➢ The delivery of the baby is done through a surgical incision.
