, Assignment 1
Section A: Knowledge-based Questions

Question 1:
Write three paragraphs (no more than 200 words each) in your own words.

In paragraph 1 define fiction and discuss two examples of this kind of text.
Fiction is any work of writing that is based on the author's imagination and usually has a
plot. It depicts fictitious events and persons. This usually takes the shape of books and
stories. Fiction is stories that are 'formed' and made by a writer. The word 'fiction'
derives from the Latin word 'fictus,' which meaning 'to form.' Mystery, science fiction,
romance, fantasy, and crime thrillers are only some of the genres found in fiction. Non-
fiction is the polar opposite of fiction. Fiction can be based on facts or true events, but
the most of the content was created by the author using their own imagination. Fiction is
usually read for entertainment, but it can also be studied for themes and meanings.

In paragraph 2 define non-fiction and discuss two examples of this kind of text.

All nonfiction writings have a few key characteristics. Nonfiction writing, above all, must
include genuine people, places, and events. True stories must be told in nonfiction
literature. When something in a story is made up, it is classified as fiction. Nonfiction
must also have facts, or material that can be verified as accurate. With this in mind, a
writer might choose and organize data in a variety of ways to achieve his objective.
Some facts can be left out, while others can be shown in a different way, but facts must
be present in the written work overall. The majority of non-fiction is written in order to
convey or inform. The notions stated are always based on true, real-life situations if the
author's goal is to express. As a result, one may argue that all nonfiction works to inform
the reader.

In paragraph 3 discuss the differences between fiction and non-fiction.

Both fiction and non-fiction are genres of narrative writing that your pupils will learn in
primary school. They are, however, drastically different. Fiction texts are made up
stories with characters, a setting, and a storyline based on the author's imagination.
Picture books, novels, and traditional fairytales, to name a few, are examples of fiction
writings. Meanwhile, non-fiction is defined as any literature made with the goal of
conveying facts or knowledge about real occurrences to the audience. It is thus the
polar opposite of fiction. Nonfiction literature are instructive and based on facts. History
books, autobiographies, and other works fall within this category.
