CN V: Trigeminal Nerve
, Is the largest Cranial Nerve and provides sensation to the face, you have one on each side.
Its main function is transmitting Sensory information to the Skin, Sinuses and Mucous
Membranes in the face. The nerve communicates Touch, Pain and temperature to the
brain.
It also stimulates movement in the Jaw muscles
Trigeminal Neuralgia
Usually occurs spontaneously, but is sometimes associated with Facial trauma or Dental
procedures. The condition may be caused by a blood vessel presses against the Trigeminal
nerve, also known as vascular compression
Symptoms
Episodes of severe shooting or jabbing pain that may feel like electric shock
Spontaneous attack of pain or attacks triggered by things such as touching the face,
chewing, speaking or brushing teeth
Bouts of pain lasting from few seconds to several minutes
CN VII: Facial Nerve
This Cranial Nerve emerges from the pons of the
brainstem, controls the muscles of the Facial
expression and functions in the conveyance of
taste sensations from the Anterior two-thirds of
the tongue.
Symptoms affected Facial N.
Facial muscle paralysis
weakness, or twitching of the face
Dryness of the eye or mouth
Alteration of taste on the affected side
Excessive tearing or salivation
