, Question 1
1.1 Discuss how you will group learners into their reading ability level groups.
I will divide students into their reading ability groups in the following way:
• Mixed ability groups
The main reason for using small groups is that students can learn from each
other or share materials.
• Same Ability Groups
Same Ability Groups are important for daily guided reading in groups.
• Reading in Pairs
Pairing students helps them work together and help each other.
• Individual Reading
Sometimes children need to work independently to show understanding and
progress.
1.2 Name the reading approach that you would apply to teach reading with ability
level groups that you have chosen?
Socio- cultural approach.
Children will learn to read and write if they have support and scaffolding from adults
and their fellow learners.
1.3 Explain how you will apply this approach to do reading with ability level groups.
The role of the teacher is to scaffold as a framework for students to build their own
knowledge. These teachers will use methods that take children from full adult
support to peer support and independent reading and writing as they believe that
children are the active learners who build their own knowledge, and they will ensure
that children read texts at their ZPD level.
1.4 During beginning reading the teacher must ensure that children with a limited
frame of reference catch up to the other children because this affects how easily they
will learn to read.
