Biological Psychology
,Areas of the Brain
,Lobes & Parts of the Brain
• Occipital Lobe – Interprets visual information
• Parietal Lobe: Sensory info
• Frontal Lobe: Decision making and problem solving
• Temporal Lobe: Interpreting sounds, inc. language
• Cerbellum: Movement, coordination and balance
• Brain stem: Connects brain to spinal cord.
• Limbic system: Located in the centre of the brain, this contains the
amygdala (responsible for emotions) and the hippocampus (which
moves memories from STM to LTM)
, Neurons
A neuron will receive a neurotransmitter in a
specific receptor at the dendrite, then convert
the signal into an electric signal, which then will
be sent through the axon to the axon terminal,
where specific neurotransmitters will be sent
out from the synapses across the synaptic gap.
