Inside this report I will discuss about Ben’s situation regarding his needs as he has a
disorder called Down’s syndrome and Type two diabetes. Ben used to be together with
his mom however she passed away the previous year. Due to his loss, he resided to a
setting that is residential.

, Rebecca is a young girl in her early childhood age. Rebecca’s needs in this situations will
need a one to one surveillance as she doesn’t have movement from her upper body
down. It will also present the different types of learning disorders: severe and profound
disorder, moderate and mild.
A learning disability can be defined as a condition that has an impact on people’s way of
learning and acquiring knowledge on information and on the ability in communicating
with people on a daily basis like a neurotypical person. This disability can happen on
people in two different ways: either due to past accident or because they were born with
the disability.

A mild disability is known as the ability to acquire knowledge of skills that are part of
practical life e.g., physical signs of not observable disability. An example of a mild
disability would be autism; this is a disorder that’s existent from birth. It is also known as
a range disorder meaning that everyone with the autism disorder disability does vary
overtime; one with this disability may live on their own with no guidance but someone
with another disability like severe and profound disability may have to live with someone
that will help them for a day care and aid them with daily activities.
Mild disability is diagnosed by medical professionals such as doctors that monitor
the disorder since the birth of the child, especially observing the development of
the history of the mental characteristics in order to decide the diagnosis. In this
case since the disorder is diagnosed from birth, the Child Psychiatrist/
Psychologists will diagnose the disorder. This profession will require a five-degree
year in medicine that has to be regulated by the GMC. They will also require a
three-year course of training core in the subject of psychiatry.

A severe and profound disability is regarding an individual have serious learning
impairments and others that can affect them to be dispassionate. An example of this
type of disability would be the Turner’s syndrome which it mainly happens on females.
This is genetic and it deals with about one in almost two thousand female babies. The
method that they, professionals that are specified in the field, will be a lab test. This will
generally be performed to resolve the child’s development’s chromosome for instance
the blood sample.
Turner’s syndrome can be diagnosed differently depending on the stages of the person.
This disorder can be detected between the childhood and puberty circle. Moreover, it can
also be detected before the baby is even born through amniocentesis.
The professionals that can detect this disorder can be the kidney specialist, bladder
specialist or and the specialist specialised in the heart. I’m going to talk about the
gynaecologist professional required qualifications.
Gynaecologists are required to have a medicine degree and they also must have ended
their first year of training that is foundational. By in general they must become doctors
first specialised by GMC.

A moderate disability can be defined as an inability to support and care for themselves
as they will need someone to help them. However, people with this disability can
communicate by using a variety of skills in language. How moderate disability will variate
from other disabilities would be that their IQ are between the age of 35-49 years of age
whereas for a mild learning disability person, the IQ will be 50-70, for example Down’s
Syndrome which is a disorder that’s caused by an extra chromosome that contains small
packages of genes. Trisomy 21 has 46 chromosomes plus one chromosome twenty-one.
One way Down’s syndrome can be diagnosed is by having screening tests that provide
safety for Ben, however, Ben wouldn’t receive a clear diagnosis from the Obstetrician.
The qualifications needed to become an Obstetrician in the United Kingdom will be a
finished degree in medicine and also completing two-year course foundation training.
Another way would be a screening test also known as the nuchal translucency which is a
fluid that resides at the back of the neck- this is also known as the diagnostic test which
they are amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling that is performed before the
screening test that will detect if the baby develops Down’s syndrome. In this case Ben’s
parents would have known if he had Down’s syndrome since birth.
