Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good week! Mine was nice and cold and snowy here in Cleveland. This week I chose to write about the significance for the week. After reading the readings for this week and writing our discussions posts about the micro, meso and macro levels, I thought a lot about this in my workplace this week, which I honestly hadn't put much though in the past. The unit I work on now is partly COVID. With that being said, there is a lot of changes that we make for COVID charting vs non-COVID charting. For example, non-COVID charting we do our fully assessments, a daily note, plan of cares, hourly rounding, interventions, etc. But the Clinic came up with a rule for COVID charting (macro level decision), that we did not need to chart as much for these patients. For example, instead of doing all of the charting explained, we now just do a focused assessment, and a daily note, we don't need the additional information. This changes on Feb 8th for us and we stop doing COVID charting (macro level decision across entire system). MY question is- did they decide to stop the charting because of an issue that occurred at a micro level in the charting? Was it a safety issue at a micro level, that could have ended up affecting higher levels becoming a legal issue, and that is why they took the COVID charting away? I guess, I didn't think about how much work goes into making decision and putting policies into place from the macro level, going down the meso level, to relay that information to the managers, to relay the new changes to us so we are practicing safety and effectively at the micro level. Then thinking about how theymust relay the information to all staff, the nurses, doctors, patient care assistants, to make sure we are all aware of the changes occurring, before they go into effect. I didn't really think about how they have to make these changes on issues, daily, and have to come up with a prompt way to get the information down the chain of command, promptly beforehand, across an entire organization. This made me realize important these levels are and really kind of connect the dots on how they all align, and we all have our own parts in each of the levels.
