NR500 Week 4 Discussion
Hi Everyone, I hope you all had a productive week! This week I honestly really struggled with finding information for the paper and really struggled! But, in my readings I did learn a lot that I honestly didn't know about. The connective leadership style that more aligns with me is the servant leadership style. I always focus on patient-centered care. Although I do normally listen more than I speak, I am much more in-tune with having a nurturing and mentoring tendencies. I love empowering others and lifting others up so they can feel better about themselves! I am definitely the type of person to put other people first, sometimes I have to stand back and remember that I am important too and in order to make others happy, I have to be healthy and happy, too! I just am a very compassionate and empathetic person and I really think the more help you have from others, the more you have the potential to succeed! I will use my power to influence change in my NP role making sure to always have good communication with others. I firmly believe having effective communication is a powerful tool because the better I communicate, the more everyone gets involved and we are all on the same page for the patients plan of care. Closed-loop communication in the hospital is so important because it is so easy to misinterpret something! So, having that closed-look communication can really help make sure we all understand what is going on. I also believe that using my servant leadership style approach, it is kind of like the saying goes, "kill them with kindness". I think the more kind and understanding you are, the more kind and understanding others will start to be around you. And that is a powerful thing to possess, because if someone else may not be being kind or understanding, a patient can feel upset and like they are not important, which can make them feel like they don't want to trust you. So, if you remain kind, empathetic and understanding, even in complex or difficult times, others tend to follow your lead, which can make the patient happier and feel more involved, which they will trust you with their care which is so important in our field!
