The development of these theories is informed by the uniqueness that characterizes people’s behavior. In this paper, the different personality theories and concept will be analyzed concerning the applicability of their major concepts. In the analysis, the personality theory concepts will be divided into two groups, the major and the excluded concepts respectively. Besides, the paper will cover the healthy and unhealthy personality and the roles of heredity, the environment, and epigenetics in the shaping of personality. The paper ends with an assessment and the measurement of the personality theory concepts and a reflection on the practical application of the personality theories.

Introduction

Theories of personality tend to explain why people behave as they do. The development

of these theories is informed by the uniqueness that characterizes people’s behavior. As much as

some behavior patterns among people may be the same regardless of the relationship of the

people involved, every person has a unique set of personality traits or behavior that may not

replicate another person’s behavior in entirety.

In this paper, the different personality theories and concept will be analyzed concerning

the applicability of their major concepts. In the analysis, the personality theory concepts will be

divided into two groups, the major and the excluded concepts respectively. Besides, the paper

will cover the healthy and unhealthy personality and the roles of heredity, the environment, and

epigenetics in the shaping of personality. The paper ends with an assessment and the

measurement of the personality theory concepts and a reflection on the practical application of

the personality theories.

Major concepts

Psychodynamic Model concept

The psychodynamic model concept is a systemized presentation of the psychological

forces that inform personal behavior. According to the model, there is an interplay between the

conscious and unconscious aspects of a person’s being in defining the person’s behavior (Lecci,

2013). The psychodynamic model is based on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. In his

theory, Freud believed that the human mind is divided into three parts, the conscious mind, the

subconscious part and the unconscious part (Lecci, 2013).
