1.1 Emotional development and health are two aspects of children's ability to
understand and control their moods and feelings. Name emotional reactions
that the following children may express in their emotional development:

a. An ill child: An ill child will be withdrawn, quiet and not interact often with others.

b. A hungry child: A hungry child will be sort-tempered and irritable with those
around them. They will also struggle to concentrate in class due to hunger.

c. An obese child: An obese child will be self-conscious of their self-image due to
their weight; hence, they will react to social interactions by being shy and withdrawn.
They will keep to themselves and not be confident.

d. A tired child: A tired child will overreact over simple issues and will cry easily. They
are also irritable and cannot concentrate.

e. An overprotected child: An overprotected child will be very demanding and will be
dependent upon others to get what they want.

1.2 Which factors may detriment Hlogi's health? Briefly explain why they have
a negative impact on her.

Hlogi eats too many foods which are high in saturated fats and carbohydrates. Due
to the lack of nutrition in these foods it makes her gain weight. In addition, the
constant snacking of potato chips and biscuits and pre-packaged meals increase her
sugar intake and does not provide suitable nutrients. Her lifestyle of mainly watching
television and being confined to the house instead of exercising also contributes to
her weight gain and lack of fitness.

The unhealthy lifestyle, lack of exercise, imbalanced diet is all detrimental to her
health. They have a negative impact because a high fat intake caused by her poor
diet and lack of exercise increases the risk of cancer and causes obesity which is not
only bad for her self-image but also poses a health risk of high blood pressure, heart
disease and diabetes.

1.3 Imagine you are in Hlogi's mom's situation of studying. You are aware of
how much your daughter is stressing about her weight due to unhealthy
eating. Discuss the key elements that you need to focus on for your child to be
healthy.

Firstly, I would focus on her physical bodily health. I would have to focus on ensuring
that Hlogi is involved in sports in the community or school, either over the weekend
or after school. I would need to focus on encouraging healthy habits and hobbies,
thus, exposing her to different sports and cultural activities so that she is not
