HIST 410N Week 2 Assignment Essay Video Analysis Video Analysis Benito Mussolini (Solution)
Video Analysis of Benito Mussolini Benito Mussolini who became a fascist dictator of Italy in 1925. He remained in this role for 20 years, calling himself Il Duce, which means “The Leader”. The video, Dictator’s Playbook, shows the life of Mussolini from his childhood years all the way until his assassination around 1945. Mussolini is known for using force and acts of war as a dictator in Italy during world war II, as well as being allies with Adolf Hitler. Violent Movement and Government Authority Mussolini was different than most dictators when it came to violent movements. While most dictators used immediate violence and force to completely eliminate any threats that may be up against them. Mussolini did it in such a way that he claimed law and order would be the outcome to end the crisis. He promised the people of Italy that they would be a great country and other countries would be threatened by them. Mussolini also took years to achieve his dictatorship, he took his time to strategize his takeover of Italy. Mussolini groomed Italians into a group of single-minded people to lead the Fascist movement (Duiker, 2015). To them, violence was glorified, and they were prepared to use violence to “attain the goals of the state, no matter what the cost (Cameron, 2017).” Mussolini believed that during the socialist strikes, the Fascists helped restore the order. The Fascists went through cities and towns and burned down houses, attacked people in the streets and murdered socialist leaders. In 1921, Mussolini and a few fascists are elected into the Parliament. Mussolini was soon after elected as prime minister by basically giving the King no other option.
