Anita Douglas Community Acquired Pneumonia Shadow Health (All Tabs) | GRADED A+ (SUMMARY)
Assignment 13.2: Shadow Health, Community Acquired Pneumonia This week in the Shadow Health Clinic, Ms. Anita Douglas came in to be seen for upper respiratory symptoms. Ms. Douglas is a 72-year-old African American woman who reports having symptoms inclusive of chest pain, cough and fever. Upon exam and health history interview, Ms. Douglas reports having chest pain in the lower right portion of her chest at a level 2/3 at rest and 5/10 when irritated from coughing, and a wet productive cough with yellow-green sputum for the past three days, with her fever appearing in the past 24 hours. She stated that she has attempted to take hot showers, as well as using a humidifier and rest to help with her symptoms. Ms. Douglas stated that recently she has had a slight decrease in ability to complete activities of daily living independently, and has had the assistance of her husband. She also mentioned having had the pneumonia vaccine 12 years prior. Ultimately, Ms. Douglas had a sputum gram stain test completed and was prescribed Doxycycline 100 mg tablets to be taken (1 tablet) orally every 12 hours for five days. Ms. Douglas was educated upon the importance of drinking fluids and getting plenty of rest, as well as calling the clinic if she noticed any new rashes, skin itching or redness. I have noticed, throughout my time completing the Shadow Health Clinic modules, that I grasp the information much more comprehensively when I complete a learning module along with a clinic module where I see a patient. I did feel when completing the module this week, as if a component was missing due to the fact that it was simply a patient visit, rather than the education module combined with a patient care visit. It may be beneficial to combine a review of information learned in the previous module prior to patient care modules in the future if this is a possibility, as it allows for the student to learn (or refresh) the information, and then apply that information to patient care right afterward which allows for locking in the information.
