, Question 1
1.1) First year teacher often complain that universities often leave a huge gap between
theory and practice, and they often complain that education for educators are
heavily based on theory.
Teacher education has a key purpose and that is where students learn from theory.
While student teachers learn the theory, they often believe that the theory that that
learn will help them during classroom challenges which is often quiet wrong. Teacher
education should be where student teachers must learn from experience. No theory
can fit for all classroom problems/ scenarios Teachers are encourages to have their
own personal theories of teaching and they should adapt to this new teaching style.
When being a teacher you are required to be a lifelong learner, by seeking new ideas
and developing their skills every day.

1.2) Nodding thinking on care in education is defined as teaching relationships and
emphasizes the importance of relationships in teaching situations. It is also defined
as caring for someone and you feel very deep and strong about it. It is a relationship
between the carer and the one who receives it i.e., the learner. The teacher takes
the role of the who is caring and the learner being the one who is being cared for.
There are two elements according to the nature of the caring relationship, one is
engrossment. Engrossment is when time is given to a learner specifically to address
the needs of the learner and the teacher is not distracted by her own personal
responsibilities. The child should feel a sense of caring and that he has the teacher’s
attention.
The second element is displacement of motivation, this means that the teacher is
aware of the learners needs and provides attention towards there learner towards
the problem the teacher and learners have identified in the child’s learning and
communication. The teacher focusses professionally on the learners and objectively
towards the learners caring. Becoming too engrossed into learners may result in
perspective loss therefore teachers are encouraged to keep distance and do the right
thing. It is eon equally important that a teacher evaluates and acknowledges both
sides of the relationship. Nodding sees education as being the central to the growing
of the caring society. She defines educations as “'a constellation of encounters, both
planned and unplanned, that promote growth through the acquisition of knowledge,
skills, understanding and appreciation”
