Henry Williams Part 1 - NURS 1140 Fundamentals of Nursing-Keiser University
Opening Questions How did the simulated experience of Henry Williams’s case make you feel? This scenario was quite frustrating in the sense that it did not allow for you to ask more questions about Henry and his wife’s situation that is causing him anxiety. It was interesting to use the SPICES tool and realize the type of questions that I should be asking for this assessment. What nursing actions did you feel were appropriate within thisscenario? I think education and support towards Henrys family was vital in this case because his wife seemed very confused on what was happening, and Henry seemed upset that he kept having to answer his wife. Also, since this patient is older, the SPICES assessment is important to use to understand other factors that relate to the patient’s condition and means to getting better. Scenario Analysis Questions* EBP What priority problem did you identify for Henry Williams? Henry still smoking was a priority in this problem because his lungs cannotsupport that decision with his COPD. EBP What is the rationale for recognizing Henry Williams’s shortness of breath and for initiating actions in a timely manner? Henry should be treated in a timely manner because of his increased risk of sudden death, he already has COPD and hypertension and his pO2 saturations are below 90% which means he is in need of oxygen supplementation. A timely matter for interventions allows for best chance of recovery and decreased chance of a fatal event like sudden death from a cardiac incident.
