If Doris Bowman’s family members had been present during the scenario, describe how you would support them when her condition deteriorated. If the family was at the bedside, I would communicate that the patient is experiencing an adverse reaction to this medication, morphine, and I would ask them politely to leave the room while we stabilize their loved one and that I will come and get them when we were ready. I would not ensure them everything will be okay, because that is not a for sure, because anything is possible during an emergency. 7.
