Key Findings Harris County is the third largest county in the nation, with its largest city being Houston which is the third largest city in the United States, with a population of 4.7 million. Population of residents include 43.7% Hispanic, 28.7% White, 20% African American, 7% Asian, and others include Indian, Native American, and two or more races. The poverty rate in Harris County is 16.5% which is higher than the national poverty rate of 11.8%. Residents over age 18 years that had no insurance coverage reduced from 2010 (30.8%) to 2018 (26.9%) post Affordable Care Act; however, sixteen of 38 communities increased 31%-57%. The percentage of residents who have are overweight characterized as obese for Harris County is 28% (year 2016) with is a four percent increase in the last ten years which correlates with an average of one percent increase every three years.
