Patient Care Rules

Infection Control
Chain of Infection: Pathogen → Reservoir → Exit → Transmission → Entry → Host
Rule: Break one link, no infection.
● Fomite: An inanimate object that transmits infection (e.g., Cassette, X-ray table,
Calipers).
Contrast Media & Medications
● Mild Reactions: Nausea, vomiting, hives, itching.
● Severe Reactions: Anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, hypotension.
● Metformin: Concerns the kidneys. Contrast + Metformin = Hold medication and monitor
kidney function.
Registry Rules & Scope of Practice
● Exam Order: Nuclear Medicine procedures must be performed before Barium studies.
● Scope of Practice: Technologist recognizes, monitors, and reports—does NOT
diagnose.
Consent Types
● Written Consent: Invasive procedures.
● Oral Consent: Routine exams.
● Implied Consent: Patient cooperation.
Emergencies & DNR
● No pulse? CPR / AED.
● DNR (Do Not Resuscitate): Patient still receives imaging, medication, comfort, and
, monitoring. Everything except resuscitation.
