Unit 2 D1
20th April 2014 – Liverpool vs. Norwich
I will be talking about the use of tactics from the Liverpool team during their game
against Norwich.
It was a typical Liverpool start where they come out of the blocks fast. As soon as
the game was kicked off the Liverpool team attacked as a unit, weaving in and out of
defenders making runs in channels so the midfielders could make a pass. This is a
good tactic played by Brendan Rodgers. This is because the opposing team is
shocked at the quick start and cannot adjust their formation to hold off the waves of
attack. A goal would totally justify this tactic and this is exactly what happened. As
the defenders began to lose control of the movement of players, there was room
where the midfielders are supposed to be for Raheem Sterling. From this advanced
position he belts it in the top corner.
During the quick tempo start of Liverpool they looked like scoring every time they got
the ball. As the Liverpool slowed the tempo down and pass the ball around, spaces
began to open up because the passing tired the opposing players out who were
chasing the ball. As they got increasingly annoyed by the chasing of the ball,
Raheem Sterling turns provider by playing a pitch perfect cross along the floor to his
strike partner Luis Suarez who slots it in the bottom corner.
This was a tactical master class from Liverpool so far as it was 2-0. As the first half
was ageing Liverpool started to lose possession as Norwich came back into the
game. This caused pressure on Liverpool towards the end of the half.
