A-

Learner Expectations: In order to foster desired learner expectations, I should set high

expectations for all students, regardless of their background. Therefore, providing equitable

access to resources and support to meet these expectations is crucial (Ladson-Billings, 1995).

Incorporating culturally appropriate teaching practices that connect the curriculum to what the

students know will make learning more meaningful.

Emotional Safety: To create a sense of emotional safety with my students, I should create an

environment where students feel valued and respected by incorporating diversity through texts,

classroom displays, discussions, and activities. The influence of culture and instructional changes

needed to engage in liberatory education (Hammond, 2023). It is important that educators use

culturally responsive practices that affirm students’ identities and experiences. Lastly, it is

imperative to enforce policies that address bullying and discrimination, providing a physically

safe environment for all students.

Physical Safety-It is important that students not only feel emotionally safe in their classroom,

but physically safe as well. An organized and respectful classroom is much more conducive to

effective teaching and one of the most important things teachers can do to promote learning is to

create classroom environments where students feel safe (Creating a Safe Classroom

Environment 2020). It is important that the physical space is welcoming and inclusive. This

includes arranging furniture to accommodate different learning activities and making sure all

students have access.
