, DEVELOPING ORGANIZATION ETHICS AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR 2
Purpose of Corporate Social Responsibility
Companies and organizations may be in positions where their outreach can extend to a
large number and variety of people. Because of the range of their influence, organizations have a
social responsibility to be ethical for various reasons. This is called corporate social
responsibility (CSR). From an ethical standpoint, it is required that any organization should act
ethically responsibly as individuals are. For example, it is expected that a company that creates
food should be truthful in what they sell and not mislead customers. Consumers expect this type
of responsibility as it is what they believe should be right. From a strategic perspective, because
of this expectation, companies should act responsibly because doing so otherwise could
jeopardize the business. Organizations are expected to act responsibly and because of this
expectation, they are bound to do so to meet it or risk consequences. Maintaining a positive
image in the eyes of the public, whether motivated purely by the prospect of business success or
feeling an ethical responsibility, is required (Trevino & Nelson, 2017).
Stakeholders
Paradigm Toys has primary and secondary stakeholders. Primary stakeholders in this
company would be investors as they financially support the company and return on investment is
related to how well the company can perform. In case of ineffective or failure of CSR, the
investors would experience the financial consequences as the company loses public trust and loss
of sales. A secondary stakeholder would be the public or community. They are affected by
Paradigm Toys’ choices and in case of poor CSR, they would feel effects as well such as
dangerous toys.
