1. Explain the digestion that occurs in the oral cavity.
The digestion occurs in the mouth initially, then it consists of mechanical breakdown of food by
all of your teeth that increases the area for chemical digestion. The salivary amylase is useful
with digestion and is secreted by salivary glands.


2. What is the function of the liver in digestion?
The liver is an important process of the digestion and produces bile which helps assist the
digestion of fats and minerals.


3. What role does the gall bladder play in digestion?
The gall bladder stores the bile and releases in the small intestine also known as the duodenum.


4. Why is the orientation of muscle of the stomach wall important? How does this contribute to its
function?
The stomach has smooth muscles that contract the intestine and plays an important role in
mixing food and proper enzymes. The fluids also get mixed in the digestion system while the
muscles churn the food.
