lab Questions
1. What is the function of the ureter?
The urine is transported to the bladder from the renal pelvis. This is done by the ureter.
2. Compare and contrast the male and female urethra.
Females typically have a short urethra approximately 1.5 inch long while the males have a much
longer urethra approximately seven to eight inches. The males urethra transports both urine and
semen, while the females opens outside just anterior to the opening of the vagina.
3. Describe the two layers of the kidneys.
The filtering is conducted by the renal cortex. The renal cortex is the outer layer. The inner layer
is the renal medulla and each kidney is attached to a ureter.

EXPERIMENT 1: KIDNEY FILTRATION
Introduction Questions

Results and Discussion
1. Why is it important that the kidney filters the blood? In your response, discuss what is being
removed and what is being selectively retained.
Without kidneys filtering the blood the body would get infections and buildup would occur
possibly leading to secondary issues including but not limited to death.
