On May 30th, 2010, Jeff Bezos delivered a speech
to graduates from Princeton University. Jeff
starts off by talking about his childhood. He tells
us about the trips with his grandparents,
particularly about the road trip that was getting
boring. He would try to pass the time by doing
math problems in his head. He would calculate
the gas mileage and how much time would be
taken off of his grandmas life from smoking. The
smoking calculation upset his grandmother and
Jeff’s grandfather pulled over and had a very
meaningful conversation with him. His
grandfather taught him an important life lesson
by telling him, “One day you’ll understand that
it’s harder to be kind than clever.” He also
learned cleverness is a gift and kindness is a
choice.
Also during the speech, Jeff Bezos talked about
when he had the idea to create a company with
