(CVP) MONITORING
DEFINITION AND IMPORTANCE

Central Venous Pressure
(CVP):

A measurement of the pressure
in the thoracic vena cava, near
the right atrium of the heart.

Importance:
Reflects right ventricular
preload, indicating fluid
status.

Helps guide fluid therapy, particularly in critically ill patients.
Assists in diagnosing right-sided heart failure, venous return issues,
and hypovolemic states.

INDICATIONS FOR CVP MONITORING

Hemodynamic Monitoring
Severe hypotension or shock.
Fluid resuscitation in sepsis or trauma.
Management of cardiac output in heart failure
Assessing preload and afterload in patients with cardiovascular
instability.

Superior vena cava syndrome.
Presence of arteriovenous fistula near the planned insertion site.
