Exam coverage for the CIEMT - Quiz #9: Toxicology/Environmental

scene safety, identifying exposure mechanisms, preventing
secondary contamination, performing rapid patient assessment, and
providing appropriate supportive care while coordinating with
medical direction and specialized resources.
,Inhaled Poisons
EXAMPLE:
- large amount of CO in the environment
- huffers = intentional inhalation of poisons (paints - metallic)
Absorbed Poisons
1. Brush brush brush!
2. Flush flush flush!
Splash poisons ONLY need to be FLUSHED!
,Injected Poisons
- Heroine = CNS depressant
- Speed Ball = CNS stimulant
Usually intentional!!!
, Ingested Poisons
1. Nausea/vomiting AND no hx of "itis" = poision in CHILDREN
2. Call regional poison control center
3. Activated Charcoal (within 20 minutes) + laxative
