Exam Coverage
Exam coverage for the CBMT Practice Exam includes the
professional knowledge, clinical competencies, and music therapy
skills assessed on the Certification Board for Music Therapists
(CBMT) Board Certification Examination. The current examination
consists of 150 multiple-choice questions, including 130 scored
questions and 20 pretest questions. The current passing point is 97
correct answers out of the 130 scored questions.
Additional topics include assessment and evaluation, treatment
planning, music therapy implementation, documentation, clinical
decision-making, professional practice, ethics, scope of practice,
,interdisciplinary collaboration, therapeutic relationships, cultural
responsiveness, evidence-based practice, safety and risk
management, and application of music therapy techniques across
clinical populations and treatment settings. The current exam is
based on the Board Certification Domains developed from the 2024
Practice Analysis Study, with the updated domains guiding current
exam content.
