GREEN LIGHT - Respiratory Distress
Breathing is hard, but still working
1 Trouble breathing
2 Still meeting cellular oxygen needs
3 Early Signs: Agitation, irritability, tachycardia
4 Interventions: Nasal cannula, Non-rebreather
mask, CPAP
YELLOW LIGHT - Respiratory Failure
Breathing is no longer meeting cellular needs
1 Late Signs: Cyanosis, altered level of
consciousness, bradycardia
2 Intervention: assist ventilations with BVM
attached to oxygen (positive pressure
ventilation-PPV)
RED LIGHT - Respiratory Arrest
Breathing has stopped
1 May still have a heartbeat - but not for long
2 Breathing for patient with BVM + oxygen
3 Prepare for CPR
