screening tools in the world; used by many health professionals, including
OTPs, nurses, speech language pathologists, neurologists, family physicians,
psychologists, and more; most sensitive test available for detecting
Alzheimers disease, measuring executive functions and multiple cognitive
domains which are important


The MoCA assesses 8 cognitive domains - short term memory
- visuospatial abilities
- executive functions
- attention, concentration, working memory
- language
- orientation to time and place


purpose of MoCA brief cognitive screening tool for early detection of mild cognitive
impairment, including memory loss and cognitive decline; not a diagnostic
tool, but it can be useful in determining a patient's level of understanding
and abillity, in addition to determining if a patient has signs of mild or
moderate/severe dementia; helps care providers in care plan design, inform
goal setting, and as a tool in discharge and/or level of care
recommendations
