neurotransmitters). Adverse- Hypertension/Hypotension, and agitation. AVOID
TYRAMINE.


Bupropion (Wellbutrin) atypical antidepressant, used for depression. Blocks reuptake of dopamine and
NE. Adverse- seizures, agitation


Mirtazapine (Remeron) atypical antidepressant, used for depression. Blocks Serotonin reuptake. Adverse-
sexual dysfunction, weight gain.


Bethanechol Muscarinic agonist used for urinary retention. Increases smooth muscle tone.
Decreases HR, increases sweating/saliva. Empties the bladder by relaxing
sphincter and Increasing pressure. Adverse- DUMBELS (Diaphoresis, urinary
increase, brady, emesis, lacrimination, salivation. TREAT WITH ATROPINE.


Pyridostigmine/Stigmines and Donzepil Cholinesterase inhibitors used for MS and myasthenia gravis. Prevents
degradation of acetylcholine. (replaces acet, breaks down stigmine slowly,
cholinesterase gets tired which leads to more acetylcholine) Increases
muscle/ganglion stimulation. Adverse- Paralysis, GI/Urinary obstruction. USED
FOR ATROPINE TOXICITY.


Echothiophate Cholinesterase inhibitor used for glaucoma. Prevents hydrolyzation of
acetylcholine. Adverse- Paralysis, increases in secretions. Toxicity-
atropine/diazepam/pralidoxime


a1 Adrenergic agonist. Vasoconstriction/dilatation of pupil. Adverse- Baroceptor
reflex (BP increase/HR decrease), HTN


a2 Adrenergic agonist. Decrease outflow to heart, inhibits Norepi release.


B1 Adrenergic Agonist. Increase heart force contraction, increase cardiac output.
Adverse- tachycardia/arrhythmias, angina


B2 Adrenergic Agonist. Bronchodilation relaxes smooth muscle and increases
skeletal muscle contraction. Used for asthma and delaying pre-term labor.
Adverse- tremor and hyperglycemia


Nicotine N Stimulation of parasympathetic/sympathetic causing release of epinephrine.


Nicontine M Contraction of skeletal muscle


Epinephrine A1/A2, B1/B2- Catecholamine. Vasoconstriction=Increase BP and stopping
bleeding. Used for V-fib, systole, AV block, PEA. Adverse- HTN, angina,
hyperglycemia. NO MAOI OR TRICYCLICS


Norepinephrine a1/2, B1- Catecholamine. used for Hypotension and cardiac arrest. Same
mechanism as epi


Isoproterenol B1/2. works by increasing cardiac output and AV block. Adverse- Hyperglycemia,
tachydysarrhtmia, angina.
