leukemoid reaction.
What will you see peripherally and in bone marrow for the
following:
Polycythemia Vera
Peripherally you will see a left shift, and large, bizarre platelets. Bone
marrow is hypercellular; packed all cell lines
What will you see peripherally and in bone marrow for the
following:
Myelofibrosis
Peripherally there is a left shift and NRBCs. The bone marrow is
variable, increased fibrosis results in a dry tap.
What will you see peripherally and in bone marrow for the

Auer Rods
What are the classifications of ALL and what morphologies do we
see with each?
L1-L3.
L1- small, uniform lymphoblasts
L2- large pleomorphic lymphoblasts
L3: vacuolated cells with abundant, deeply basophilic cytoplasm
Which type of ALL is most common? Who does this normally
affect?
L1, children

Best prognosis
Which type of ALL has the worst prognosis?
L3, Burkitt's
What cytochemial stain do we use to differentiate ALL?
PAS

sample to correct for the artifact?

, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Small, mature lymphocytes in blood
and bone marrow.
What do we expect to see in the bone marrow in lymphocytic
leukemias?
Bone marrow is hypercellular with lymphoblasts. M:E ratio is normal.
What leukemia is TRAP positive?
Hairy cell leukemia
When do we see Sezary Cells?
Hodgkin's lymphoma
What is the difference between leukemia and lymphoma?
Leukemia starts in the bone marrow and spreads through the blood
into the RES. Lymphomas begin in the lymph nodes.

What chemistry test do we use to diagnose multiple myeloma?
What about sed rate and rouleaux?
Calcium, protein electrophoresis (m spike). Rouleaux is a common
finding, increased ESR.
