Conclusions/Analysis 8 SUMMARY The Experiment performed with a Universal Testing Machine, teaches how to properly use a verification test. Testing machines are verified to discover whether or not it is properly calibrated to show the correct indicated load and the true load. The testing machine works by using an elastic ring called Dynamometer for calibration, and in use with another device that indicates the magnitude and deformation, the testing machine can produce load measurements. The elastic ring will allter roughly .015% for every degree change from 68° fahrenheit. PROCEDURE The Elastic ring is carefully placed in the testing machine so it lines up correctly, and the ambient temperature is measured. The machine is then balanced with the ring and reading of zero is then taken. Test loads are then applied in intervals of 5,000lbs with the indicated loads being recorded as well as the deformation, once the full range was reached, the device was unloaded and readings were taken in reverse. ......................................continued.................................................
