COURSE OBJECTIVE. The main objective of this course is to introduce you to four topics of vital
importance to all managers—product costing, planning, control, and decision-making. Product costing
involves finding costs of products/services a company offers. Planning involves establishing goals and
specifying how to achieve them by budgeting for future costs, revenues, and cash flows. Control
involves gathering feedback to ensure that the plan has been properly executed or modified as
circumstances change. Decision-making involves selecting a course of action from competing
alternatives.
TEXTBOOK. The textbook is Introduction to Managerial Accounting, 2024 Edition with Connect
(Baruch College Edition), by Brewer, Garrison, and Noreen, published by McGraw-Hill.
ISBN: 9781266489983. This edition includes access to the CONNECT online assignment system and

- This course uses Proctorio, an online proctoring service, for the quiz and the midterm exam to ensure
academic integrity. This system comes bundled with Connect and restricts what students can access on
their computers during online quizzes and tests—preventing students for example, from accessing
other websites or applications.
- Proctorio will record your computer camera and microphone during the quiz and the midterm
exam. You must have a computer with a functioning camera and a microphone to be able to take the
quiz and the midterm exam.
- The Proctorio system works on desktop or laptop computers with Google Chrome and Microsoft
Edge browsers – but not on tablets or phones.
- Proctorio does not have access to unrelated information on your computer.
- Proctorio uses algorithms to flag suspicious behavior, such as looking away from the screen,
background noise, opening other programs, or taking screenshots.
- What is monitored: Webcam video, microphone audio, screen activity, and browser usage
- During the quiz and the midterm exam, you are expected to dress appropriately as if for a public
setting and will not use headphones.
