Merrilton Robotics Data Migration Project
Western Governors University
Closing Process
A. Requirements for Closing the Data Migration Project
The closing process ensures that all project work is finalized, accepted, and properly
documented before the project is formally completed. According to the PMBOK Guide,
closing a project requires confirmation that objectives have been met, contracts have
been completed, and project documentation has been transitioned appropriately
(Project Management Institute [PMI], 2017).
One key requirement for closing the Merrilton Robotics data migration project is formal
stakeholder acceptance. Executive leadership must review project outcomes and
confirm that all deliverables meet the approved requirements. This step ensures that
the project objectives were achieved and that responsibility for the migrated system
can be transferred to operations.
A second requirement is administrative and contract closure. All vendor contracts must
be reviewed to verify that contractual obligations were fulfilled, final invoices were
processed, and procurement records were closed. This prevents future disputes and
confirms that the project's financial responsibilities have been fulfilled.
A third requirement involves finalizing project documentation and knowledge transfer.
Project records, lessons learned, and technical documentation must be archived and
made accessible to operational teams. This supports organizational learning and
ensures the migrated system can be supported effectively after project closure (PMI,
2021).
