Qualitative Mini-Proposal
Qualitative research explores and gives deeper insight into real-world problems.
Qualitative research, unlike quantitative research, helps create a hypothesis to further investigate
and understand qualitative data (Tenny et al., 2022). Qualitative research asks open-ended
questions, and the answers are not easily put into numbers. Tenny stated that qualitative research
gathers the participants' experiences, perceptions, and behavior. It answers the hows and whys
instead of how many or how much (Tenny et al., 2022). In counseling research, the study topics
chosen by a researcher often align with the researcher’s interest or who they are. Almost always
the two are related, because research interests may be generated from personal experiences that
may or may not influence the questions a researcher wishes to answer (Balkin & David, 2016).
When researching the experiences of adults raised in single-parent households, sampling and
methodology are key components in this research design and will be discussed further in the
paper. The research problem will be identified, and data will also be collected. In the data
collection, the limitations and positives of the research will be addressed. Ethical, cultural, and
legal concerns will be followed promptly to fit the needs of each participant to address the
problem without being unethical or culturally insensitive. Mixed methods can be used for finding
information and answering questions that may be separated from the research, which will also be
discussed.
