QUESTION 1
1.1 Define the following terms in your own words:
a) Reflective teaching
Reflective teaching is the process of acting upon the outcomes of reflection to continuously improve
your teaching practice and grow as a education professional. It moves beyond simply thinking about
experiences to actively implementing changes based on those reflections (RTG1501, Study Guide, p.
13).
b) Reflective practice
Reflective practice is the skill of using self-reflection regularly to understand and resolve issues or
problems that arise in your professional life. It involves thinking deeply about your experiences and
actions with the intention of making better choices for yourself and for the children you teach
(RTG1501, Study Guide, pp. 13, 15).
c) Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the capacity to recognise, understand, and manage your own feelings and
behaviours, as well as being able to recognise and respond appropriately to the emotions of others. It
includes self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management
(RTG1501, Study Guide, pp. 64-66).
d) Feedback and feedforward
Feedback is information provided about what a child has already achieved in the past, focusing on
past performance. Feedforward, on the other hand, provides information about what a child is
currently achieving and focuses on future learning and development, shifting attention from past
mistakes to future possibilities and growth (RTG1501, Study Guide, p. 98).
