Immune System
Lymphatic System - answer-A network of vessels throughout the body that works in
parallel to cardiovascular system;
-Thin-walled, low-pressure vessels return lymph to venous circulation
-Lymphatic vessels function as clean -up crew
Lymph - answer-Excess tissue fluid, damaged cells, and microorganisms flow slowly
back towards the venous system that pass through lymph node
-Once interstitial fluid is in the lymph capillaries it is called lymph.
Lymph Node - answer-Part of the lymphatic organ
-Arrangements of lymphatic tissue surrounded by connective tissue capsule
-Found along lymphatic vessels and act as small filter that the lymph passes through
before going into venous circulation.
Immune System - answer-Involves the lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, and other
lymphatic tissues that act as a major operational sites
-Attacks and destroys microorganisms and cancer cells at these checkpoint
-Does not have a set of organ in particular
Lymphocyte - answerCells of the immune system that makes use of other organ system
(in particular the lymphatic system) for conducting immune surveillance and isolating
and destroying potential pathogens.
Three Primary Functions of Lymphatic System - answer1) Transporting excess

Transporting excess interstitial fluid back to the heart - answer-Process of filtration
pushes water out of blood into interstitial fluid (approx. 1.5mL/min fluid lost from
circulation.
Lymphatic system—-> picks up lost fluid—-> carries it through—-> Lymphatic vessels

Lymph Capillary - answer-Where water in the interstitial fluid enter; surrounded by
capillary beds.
-Have highly permeable walls that allow large substances and volumes of fluid enter/exit
Once inside lymph capillaries fluid is called a lymph.
-Delivered to larger lymph-collecting vessels

-Contains valves to ensure that lymph flows in one direction.

-Two types:
-Right lymphatic duct (Drains right upper limb and right side of head, neck, and thorax)
- Delivers lymph to the blood at the junction of the right subclavian and internal jugular
veins
Thoracic duct (Drains remaining lymph of body)
-Drains lymph into blood at the junction of the left subclavian + internal jugular veins
