RNSG 1517 – Role of the Nurse & Biopsychosocial Objectives
Upon completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
1) Analyze and outline the nursing process and the role of nurse as educator.
2) Evaluate professional role of the nurse, specifically accountability, boundaries and
legal/ethical responsibilities/differentiation with varying scope of practice.
3) Apply the teaching-learning process, and principles of patient education to the care of
patients with specific needs.
4) Relate specific legal and ethical responsibilities of the nurse (including delegation principles)
to the provision of care for patients identified in this unit.

Upon completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
1) 1Analyze and outline the pathophysiology/physiologic variations in the oxygenation and
circulation to identify the nursing care needs.
2) Evaluate the significance of diagnostic exams, medications, and laboratory results related to
clients with altered oxygenation and circulation.
3) Apply the nursing process and develop plan of care for clients with altered oxygenation and
circulation across the lifespan including Cultural/Socio-economic/Emotional/Spiritual needs.
4) Relate specific legal and ethical responsibilities of the nurse (including delegation principles)
to the provision of care for patients identified in this unit.
