Identifying Characteristics

Family A consists of four members and represents a nuclear family

unit currently residing in South Orange, New Jersey. The household is

composed of an expectant mother (age 35), father (age 36), and a son (age

2), and an unborn child. The parents have been married for four years and

recently achieved first-time homeownership. Father (B.A., age 36), works

full time and is the family’s primary financial provider, while the mother

(T.A., age 35), is a stay-at-home-mother.

This family is navigating a pivotal phase in the family life cycle

characterized by increasing caregiving roles, expanding parental roles, and

an evolving socioeconomic positioning. From a population health

perspective, this transition underscores the interplay between systemic

factors such as housing security, and situational factors, such as

reproductive health and childcare responsibilities. While homeownership is

generally associated with improved health outcomes, the concurrent

expansion of the family unit introduces additional demands that require

strategic resource allocation and careful consideration of supportive

services, as the addition of a new child has the potential to introduce

stressors that impact maternal health and overall family dynamics.
