Self-reflection: Debrief
Congratulations on completing the OMS VR simulation!
After completing the scenario, please take a moment to reflect and write down your
thoughts. Questions 1 to 4 are the same questions you’ll be asked by the program after
scenario completion. These should be completed prior to reviewing system feedback.

Questions 5 and 6 should be completed after you’ve reviewed the system-specific
feedback (checkmarks and X’s).

Once this self-reflection activity is complete, submit the saved and completed
document as instructed by your instructor for review.

Name: Monica Singh
Scenario: Patricia, Gestational Hypertension with NIDDM [SNO003US]
Date: Friday, May 23, 2025

1. How did that feel? e.g. stressful, good, frustrating, energizing, exciting, etc.

This scenario felt good to complete. I was excited to start a new topic and health area

with having a pregnant client, which I never had before. At times I was stressed, because there

were new assessment tools that I have not used before. The EFM performance and interpretation

were new to me and so was the Preeclampsia Assessment. Everything else from doing a general

assessment like checking vital signs, defining presenting complaints, and determining current

and previous medical history (and more) to non-technical skills like making rational, timely

clinical decisions, and effectively communicating with the patient and the team are what made

this overall a good experience because those things are the foundation of patient care and what

, we must excel at, being a nurse. It is something I have had a lot of practice with and will

continue to learn more and get better as I keep on doing it.

2. Talk about three things that went well. Why did they go well?

Three things that went well in this scenario are:

1: I was able to perform critical aspects of the scenario well and in a timely manner. This

included using patient identifiers to promote quality and patient safety. I utilized the 5 rights of

medication administration, asked about their allergy status, and reviewed their MAR and fluid

prescription prior to administering medication. Doing these things reduces medication errors and

harm. There is always a risk of giving the wrong pill, the wrong dose, or the wrong person’s

medication and if this happens, harm to the person can occur and some reactions can be deadly.

That is why performing these critical aspects are so imperative.

2: Another critical aspect of the scenario that went well was performing parts of the

SBAR accurately. I correctly informed the provider of Patricia having a mild headache, elevated

blood pressure and history of non-insulin dependent diabetes to address the situation. For

background, I correctly informed the provider Patricia was 32 weeks pregnant, with a baseline

BP of 110-115/70-76 and a generally well-controlled blood glucose. Giving accurate background

information is important because you are telling a summary of the important clinical information

which is immediately relevant to the patient’s ongoing treatment and management. This went

well because I learned that only pertinent info to the patient’s care should be listed here.

Anything irrelevant like employment information should not be included in the background part

of the report.
