A. An independent t test was conducted to compare mood ratings for people in a
walking program (M = 4.04, SD = .74) to those in the control group (M = 3.66, SD = .96),
t (148) = 5.65, p = .007, d = .45.

Does taking a walk during a lunch break help improve the moods of workers? A
researcher team tested this hypothesis by conducting a study with 150 employees
working at a clothing factory. All employees at the factory take a one hour break for
lunch. What they did during that hour was determined by which experimental
condition they were randomly assigned to. In the experimental condition, employees
spent half of their lunch hour walking on an indoor track at the manufacturing plant. In
the control condition, employees did not go on a walk during their lunch break. After
three months, all employees completed a measure of mood called the PANAS-SF.
The PANAS consists of ten positive words (e.g., enthusiastic, proud) and ten negative
words (e.g., afraid, irritable). For each word, participants indicate the extent to which
they feel that feeling/emotion on a five point scale where 1 = not at all and 5 =
extremely. The researchers then computed the average for the positive words and
negative words for each participant.

To test the homogeneity of variance assumption, you will need to compute Levene's
test. What are you comparing with this test?

A. The two standard deviations
B. The two sample means
C. The two population means
D. The two effect sizes
