A. Global Leadership Foundation Emotional Intelligence Test (GEIT)
Complete and submit your GEIT results by attaching a PDF or a screenshot of the test results page to
your submission. Here is a link to the GEIT Test (also found on the Course Resources page or at the
bottom of the Task 1 instructions). Make certain to attach both the GEIT test and the assignment before
submission. Please do not include your results as a link as the evaluators cannot open file links within
your submission.
Tip: It is preferable to submit your GEIT results as a separate document in PDF format. Nothing needs to
be written in this section.
B. Intrapersonal Improvement
Apply either the research of Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer or Daniel Goleman to explain TWO ways
that you can improve your intrapersonal areas of opportunity (self-awareness and/or self-management)
from your GEIT results. (Unit 2: Module 1).
Tip: Focus on the language and concept of the researchers and its application to your self-awareness
and/or self-management scores from the GEIT.
Enter your response in the list below.
1. I can take Goleman’s advice by exercising better self-management while taking care of my kids. I
scored a 4 on the Global EI Test. I have three young girls, and they’re still learning to manage their own
emotions. When they become overstimulated or overwhelmed, it can be easy for me to be swept away
in the commotion as well. Understanding my own triggers when it comes to why I may yell or otherwise
have an emotional outburst can help me to be less reactive and more mindful. When I can manage my
own emotions, I can then better teach my girls to do the same.
2. Under Goleman’s four Emotional Intelligence Competencies, I scored a 4 on Self-Management. One of
the sub-categories I could improve is my optimism. I tend to see the glass as half empty instead of half
full. It’s something I’ve done all of my life, and I don’t want to pass that type of thinking on to my own
kids. Recently I’ve started to keep a gratitude journal that I use to record everything for which I’m
grateful. It helps to replace my pessimism with optimism while my circumstances remain the same. I
haven’t quite changed the way I think throughout the day, but those few minutes writing in the journal
help me to at least remember what good things I have in my life in that moment.
C. Interpersonal Improvement
Describe TWO Emotional Intelligence communication techniques that can improve your interpersonal
areas of opportunity (social awareness and/or relationship management) from the GEIT results (Unit 2:
Modules 1 and 3).
Tip: Be sure to focus on TWO emotional intelligence communication techniques that can help improve
your intrapersonal areas from the GEIT.
