Assignment 2 2026
Unique number: 578456
Due Date: 9 July 2026
QUESTION 1
a) Accessibility
Accessibility means making places, information, services, transport, communication,
learning materials and technology usable by all people, including people with disabilities,
without unfair barriers. In education, accessibility means that learners can enter the school
environment, receive information, participate in lessons and use learning resources on an
equal basis with others (United Nations, 2006).
b) Medical Model of Disability
The Medical Model of Disability views disability mainly as a problem located in the individual
person’s body or mind, usually caused by illness, impairment or injury. This model focuses
on diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and trying to “fix” or manage the person, instead of
focusing mainly on the social and environmental barriers that exclude them (WHO, 2023).

c) Stigmatisation
Stigmatisation refers to the negative labelling, judging or unfair treatment of a person
or group because they are seen as different from what society considers normal. In
disability, stigmatisation can happen when learners are teased, rejected, pitied or
treated as less capable because of their disability or because they use assistive
devices (WHO, 2024).
d) Social inclusion
Social inclusion means ensuring that all people, including people with disabilities, are
accepted, respected and given fair opportunities to participate fully in society. In
schools, it means learners with disabilities are not separated or ignored, but are
supported to learn, play, communicate and take part in school life with their peers
(United Nations, 2006).
e) Assistive devices
